  8. Please find enclosed my subscription renewal for Softdisk G-S.  It may be my last renewal if a problem I am having with your AppleWorks GS templates cannot be solved.

Each of the templates from the 3 Softdisk G-S disks exhibit a window which says ╥This is not a valid SS file╙ when OPEN is selected to load the template.  When ╥OK╙ is clicked on , the ╥Open Which File╙ screen vanishes leaving only the top of the screen menu.  The templates created by the AppleWorks GS program itself load with no problems.  The templates I have for AppleWorks v2.0 also load properly.

  12. It would seem that there is a bug in your templates!  What do I need to do to make your templates work?

  14. My IIgs had 4 Meg of memory on a GS-Ram Plus board with a RamKeeper.  My AppleWorks GS is version 1.0.

Well, Bryce, your last statement reveals the problems.  Claris apparently thought that version 1.0 of AppleWorks and versions 1.0v2 and 1.1 need not be compatible.  What can you do? Upgrade to 1.1.  Perhaps you haven╒t sent in your registration card for AppleWorks GS, but if you do, you can get a free upgrade to 1.1 as a registered user.  It really does fix many bugs in the original version.

The utility ╥Hook╙ on Softdisk #98 is just great and saves a lot of aggravation. [Hook allows you to tell ProDOS to ignore certain drives (unhook them in software, so applications don╒t keep scanning your 5.25" drives when there╒s nothing in them), then acknowledge them again later (hook them back up in software).]

  27. Now all I need is a version that works on GS/OS.  I tried to use it with the Softdisk GS System Disk but the drives kept getting reconnected.  Am I doing something wrong?

No, you aren╒t doing anything wrong.  Hook doesn╒t work with GS/OS.  The easiest way to emulate Hook in GS/OS is to remove your ╥AppleDisk.5.25╙ driver from the ╥SYSTEM:DRIVERS:╙ folder.  Once this is done, they won╒t be accessed until you put the driver back.  I usually just plunk it outside the DRIVERS folder, then plop it back in when I need to read a 5.25" disk.

  33. Alternately, you can go into the Control Panel (press Open╨Apple-Control-ESC), and in ╥Slots,╙ change slot 6 to the opposite setting (if it says ╥Disk Port,╙ change it to ╥Your Card╙ and vice versa).  When you want the drives available, change it back to the original setting.

  38. I think this is a great disk, but I have a few problems:

  40. 1. When I try to use the PSGS fonts from #2 on my Print Shop GS, on the sign, I only get one line of text and it is only a small line on the top of the page.  I printed them out with PS Lover╒s Utility Set for the GS (PLUS GS) and some were very small and some were very large.  Now, please tell me╤╤
  41.         what in the world is going on here?

  43. 2. Zappa Roidz from #2 was one slight twirk╤╤I can╒t (at least not that I know of) escape or quit the game and go back to Softdisk G-S without rebooting my machine.  Is there a way or must I always reboot?

  45. 3. Next, Measure for Measure I and II: which disk do I put it on?  There are three disks for AppleWorks GS.

I love all those nifty desk accessories.  Please put more on future issues. S.A.M. is also very nice, but there is only one adventure on the disk.  Please put more adventures on future issues.  Try to keep them the same length (it╒s nice to have something kind of short after playing Space Quest), and make lots more!

  54. 1. Boy, are OUR faces red!  We converted the fonts with PLUS GS.  We used PLUS GS to print them out, then, apparently, didn╒t do a very extensive test at ALL using Print Shop GS.  We trusted PLUS GS, and we got burned.  As a wise philosopher once said: Trust . . . but verify.

  56. 2. I guess you missed the instructions and the Controls screen, but to quit Zappa Roidz, simply press Control-Q.

  58. 3. You NEVER put data files on your three AppleWorks disks!  Make copies of them and store the originals in a safe place, then run the copies.  Measure for Measure is meant to be put on a blank disk, say one with a bunch of other AWGS files on it.  To get to this other disk, select ╥Open╙ from the File menu, then take out your AppleWorks GS disk (if you only have one 3.5" drive) and put in your data disk or Softdisk G-S.  If you put in Softdisk G-S, double╨click on the ╥AWGS.Template╙ folder, and there will be the template.
